About Burning Bush
Our story
Burning Bush began with one tutor and a simple realisation. After months of tutoring, our founder saw how much difference the right tutor makes — and that students often learn best from people not far ahead of them, who remember exactly what these exams feel like. It was rewarding, it genuinely helped, and it proved you don't need a professional price tag for brilliant teaching.
Why we exist
Burning Bush brings affordable tutoring from genuinely compassionate students who want to make a difference — helping the next generation excel with knowledge that's fresh in their minds and techniques that actually worked for them.
Our founder
Patrick Croft-Baker is an Eton sixth-former studying A-Level Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Art, with all 9s and 8s at GCSE. He started Burning Bush after seeing how much further relatable, affordable tutoring could go, and runs it alongside coordinator Alfred Hayes, who keeps tutors and families matched and organised.
Our tutors
Every tutor is a current Eton student, personally selected on academic record and, just as importantly, how well they teach. Many have tutored before or grown up helping younger siblings — so they know how to explain clearly and keep students motivated.
How it works
Find a tutor, then start with a free 30-minute taster — a relaxed first session where the tutor gets to know your child and does a quick assessment. From there, sessions run online over Zoom or Teams: working through papers, helping with homework, and marking. Times are flexible and arranged to suit you (the parent receives the tutor's contact and sets up sessions). In the school holidays, in-person sessions may be possible if you're nearby. Pricing starts from £15/hr.
